The proposal distinguishes ownership, delegation and historical checkpoints. Its published status remains Review, which should be preserved in a technical description.

What the primary record establishes

ERC-5805 was created on 4 July 2022 and is marked Review in the published specification. It proposes an interface for delegated voting power and queries of current and historical votes. Ethereum — ERC-5805, Review; created 4 July 2022 ↗

Under its described mechanism, assets express voting power only after delegation, which may be to the holder or another account. Checkpoints track voting weights through time. Ethereum — ERC-5805, Review; created 4 July 2022 ↗

What the distinction changes

WFN example: a token balance visible today can answer an ownership question while failing to answer how much voting weight an address had at a proposal’s snapshot.

Delegating to oneself is also an explicit state choice in the proposed mechanism. A governance interface should explain that choice rather than treating an unchanged balance as proof that all voting prerequisites were satisfied.

What to check before drawing a conclusion

When checking a vote, record the token contract, delegate, snapshot timepoint and voting contract. Query the same historical point used by the proposal, rather than substituting the latest balance from a different screen.

Finally, inspect the deployed implementation and clock semantics. A proposal’s existence does not establish adoption by a particular DAO; naming an ERC in documentation should be tested against the actual interfaces and behaviour of that deployment.
