The contract-signature standard supplies a validation interface. It does not make a historical success result a permanent or universal authorisation.

What the primary record establishes

ERC-1271 defines isValidSignature(hash, signature) for contracts and requires a specific return value when validation succeeds. The validation method must not modify state, but it may make external calls as specified by the standard. Ethereum ERC-1271 — Standard Signature Validation Method for Contracts ↗

Its explanation explicitly allows context-dependent validation, including time, state and signer authorisation within a smart wallet. Consequently, checking the same bytes at another point can involve different relevant conditions. The interface standard does not prescribe one universal signature policy. What the distinction changes

A service that saves only signature valid may therefore lose what was actually checked. The relevant contract, message hash, network and observation state form part of the evidence. An earlier successful check should not silently stand in for the conditions required by a later action.

This does not mean every contract signature expires or that every later check must fail. It means those properties come from the contract’s policy and context, not from the name ERC-1271. Treating interface support as a complete description of permission overstates what the standard establishes.

What to check before drawing a conclusion

Record the verifying account and exact message, and retain the block or state reference appropriate to the verification. Confirm how the application handles changed signers, revocation rules and time conditions without assuming the same policy across all wallets.

WFN’s inference is that verification evidence needs context as well as bytes. This article does not establish the safety of a particular contract, order or login request. Approval to validate a message should not be misrepresented as consent to an unrelated transfer.
