The specification separates processing an authorisation from subsequent execution. A failed execution status is therefore insufficient evidence that no account permission changed.

What the primary record establishes

EIP-7702 introduces authorisation tuples that can write a delegation indicator to an externally owned account. Code-executing operations then follow the designated address. The tuple identifies a chain, delegated address and nonce, with signature information. Ethereum EIP-7702 — Set Code for EOAs ↗

The specification explicitly states that processed delegation indicators are not rolled back if transaction execution later fails. It also defines clearing delegation through a valid authorisation with the zero address. These are state-transition rules, not a promise that a failed wallet interaction is harmless. What the distinction changes

A user interface that shows only failed may therefore leave the user with an incomplete account of what happened. The relevant questions include whether the authorisation was processed, what delegation remains and what the delegated implementation can do.

This is different from saying every failed transaction changes delegation. The mechanism and processing conditions must actually apply. Reviewing the real account state avoids both the false reassurance of a red status and the opposite mistake of treating all failed interactions as identical.

What to check before drawing a conclusion

Before signing, inspect the network and delegated target through trusted tools and understand the intended account behaviour. After an uncertain interaction, verify the resulting account code or delegation state. Do not rely solely on the website’s success or error message.

WFN’s operational inference is to report authorisation and execution as separate outcomes. This article does not audit a wallet, endorse a delegate or provide a recovery transaction. Any remediation should follow the actual chain rules and the wallet’s documented, verified procedure.
