The week brought ECB household expectations, UK flash activity, futures positioning and the Eurosystem statement. Their observation dates must remain distinct.

What the primary record establishes

On 23 October the ECB reported September median one-year inflation expectations of 3.1%, up from 3.0%. Three-year and five-year medians remained at 2.9% and 2.5%. The near-term shift was not shared by every horizon. ECB — Consumer Expectations Survey, 23 October 2026 ↗

The UK flash composite PMI for October reached 53.1 from 52.0. This is a diffusion survey, not an equivalent percentage increase in GDP; its preliminary status still matters. S&P Global — Flash UK PMI, 23 October 2026 ↗

What the distinction changes

Friday’s TFF report described Tuesday 20 October positions. In euro futures, WFN calculates −68,840 net contracts for leveraged funds and +190,421 for asset managers. Opposite categories should not be collapsed into one statement about funds. CFTC — TFF, positions at 20 October 2026 ↗

The Eurosystem statement published on 20 October concerned 16 October: net foreign-currency position EUR349.5 billion and monetary base EUR3,923.5 billion. Accounting stocks do not alone demonstrate currency intervention. ECB — Eurosystem statement, 20 October 2026 ↗

What to check before drawing a conclusion

The combined reading needs survey month, collection window, position date and accounting date. A common release week does not make all the underlying observations simultaneous.

This review documents the week’s primary records without inventing currency returns from an unverified price series. Subsequent surveys, final readings and position reports should test each interpretation separately before it becomes a broad market conclusion.
